$5 Quiz - This Day In History

Okay people.. I got $5 burning a hole in my pocket... so here's your latest Team Henderson Blog Quiz:

What amazing event happended 30 years ago today (3/26/79)?

First one with the correct answer wins!

Update: Steve B. is the WINNER... he correctly answered that the MSU Spartans defeated the Indiana State Sycamores to win the NCAA basketball championship in 1979!

Wanna help Steve double his winnings? Figure out how I am somehow associated with one or more of the main characters in that victory! This offer only open till MSU tips off tonight at 6:37 pm (Pacific time)!

Answer: Janice got it right! Larry Bird and I have the same birthday!

P.S. Sorry, obviously many things happen each day. I am looking for a particular event and only that one wins.

"how am i somehow associated with the main players in that game? you have till the end of the day to answer."

  18. Uncle Steve, I'll sponsor a $5 fundraiser for you if you stop whining.

  19. Actually Steve, you answer yesterday was not totally correct--it was Indiana State University--not Indiana that Larry played for. They are the Indiana State Sycamores, located in Terre Haute. Did you guys watch the game replayed last night on ESPN? (and the score was 75-64.)

  20. steve. first off... congrats.. you just doubled your winnings. second.. chill'ax.

sorry that my initial statement of the question wasn't perfecto. but, all's well that pays well.. so in the end you came out okay. and... i totally believe you knew. again.. congrats! the checks in the mail ;)

  21. ohhh.. janice.. nice job catching that mistake by steve. however, his answer was sufficiently clear enough to be correct in the eyes of the Team Henderson Competition Committee (Joel can tell you who they are).

interesting fact: that game.. the 1979 final remains the highest rated televised college basketball game in history.

  22. Whew...I was just about to take you off my blog list!

Where else could you have such interaction??

    ReplyDelete
  23. Janice,
You are correct however... When stating Indiana, that is the commonly refered to name of his team. If he was playing for the University of Indiana I would have put Hoosiers. Also he actually did play for both schools.

  24. All my Thanks to Shepard Smith!

  25. oh steve. you should have stopped when you had the chance. the University of Indiana??? ummmm... it's Indiana University dude.

and, having attended THE University of Michigan - I can tell you that Michigan and Michigan State are two quite different answers that should not and would not be substituted for each other!! NEVER!!

  26. btw.. before giving me a hard time.. look at the way i worded the question on the blog entry itself.. "how I am somehow associated with ONE OR MORE of the main characters in that victory?'

    let's all just breath people..

  27. BTW, Julie did not tell me the answer. She did tell me that you told her you went to the game and I was going to call you on that one. Do you know where it was played?

    ReplyDelete
  28. janice.. PLEASEEEEEEEE. it was played in Salt Lake City on the campus of the University of Utah.

did YOU know??? huh?? that the final in 1979 was the last time a final was ever played on a university campus? hmmm???

also.. Julie has alzheimers. what i told her was that in 1979 she got me tickets to the MSU vs. Western Michigan basketball game for my birthday. I'm pretty sure she went to the game with me. i have to check with Bill on that one. it was an awesome game. cassie russell's kid or nephew or something played for Western at the time and they were in the Top 20 - believe it or not - when the two teams played that year.

it was during that game i saw one of the best dunks ever.. as Magic was going down court for a breakaway dunk.. when all of a sudden he looked like he was going to just do an underhand layup. all of a sudden he flicks the ball way over the rim and back towards the free throw line.. over his shoulder.. without even looking. all of a sudden Greg Kelser comes from behind - grabs the ball at it's highest point.. and does a massive slam!!!! it was the most awesome play! Magic had eyes in the back of his head.

  29. I was letting it go until you brought it up. How does Janice's answer fit into the question...

"how am i somehow associated with the main players in that game? you have till the end of the day to answer."

I did not re-read your initial entry on the blog only your response posted in the comments. (as is customary of all blog posts.)

As to the name of the university. In my haste i did refer to it as U of Indiana. (my mistake.) My point is that they are not referred to as the Sycamores only as "Indiana" and Indiana University is referred to as "Hoosiers".

  30. steve - i accept your points. let's just hope the representative from the great state of Indiana can do so as well and squelch this uprising!
