... You Might Live in Michigan

1. If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 18 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Michigan.

2. If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights each year because Pellston is the coldest spot in the nation, you might live in Michigan.

3. If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March, you might live in Michigan.

4. If you instinctively walk like a penguin for five months out of the year, you might live in Michigan.

5. If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Michigan.

6. If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Michigan.

7. If you have worn shorts and a coat at the same time, you might live in Michigan.

8. If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, you might live in Michigan.

9. If you have had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Michigan.

10.
If know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you might live in Michigan.

My Sister Has No Game

My sister's name is Lurinda. I must admit she was a pretty good athlete in her time. However, that time is way past at this point although she insists on pretending that it isn't.

She also is normally pretty bright. Please note this is a relative analysis and I am giving her much credit due to the fact she lives in Michigan, has a child, likes Michigan State.. and many other factors that might diminish normal capacities.

Now, my sister is getting into photography. She has a friend, Lori, who is helping her (her mentor). In any event, that excites me because I like photography.

So, when I asked her to send me a picture from her visit to Tennessee.. I kind of expected that she might actually send a cool picture. You know, one that included people. One where you could tell it was her. That sort of thing.

Instead, I got this picture that looks like they broke into the arena, snuck into the bleachers.. set their camera timer on.. and ran to the opposite side of the court for the picture. I'm reasonably certain that my sister is on the right. But, who could tell?? It might even be Lori on the left.. but God only knows.. and He had to use a microscope to figure it out!

Lurinda - you have no game!!

Democracy Can Work

I know, at times, we observe the many social ills that befall our world and, even, our great nation. Sometimes that makes it difficult to believe we, as individuals, can make a positive difference.

However, as evidence that democracy does work, and in order to encourage you today, I ask you to focus your attention on the blog header picture. Note, that it is the exact 900 pixels wide the author desires.

Yes, America - and the world - the collection of individuals that complained to Google to restore our ability to choose our blog header widths worked. And now, we can live again in peace.

Google - you are to be commended for listening to the will of the people - and throwing us a bone.

Go Warriors!!

Tod and I have GREAT friends. This month we got to go to two Golden State Warriors game and both times had box seats. In each suite they have food and your own bathroom!! To make it even better the Warriors won both games. I want to claim some of the glory because I wore my lucky sweatshirt both times.

I love Baron Davis and Monta Ellis. I'm thinking of changing Summer's name to Monta because they both can fly!!

Cow Palace Dog Show

Every year I love going to the dog show in San Fransisco. This year I went with Dana from work and we had a great time. Seeing all the breeds at the show and being able to buy lots of "dog stuff" is fun. Here are some of my favorite breeds. This Mastiff had the biggest tongue. The poodle was nothing but dreadlocks. The bulldog was so cute in a ugly way. The Duck Tolling Retriever is my new must have dog. I love the size and playfulness. He kind of reminded me of Smiley ( a dog I adopted from MSU - that was years ago)

I love having pets.

sickies

I guess this is what happens when you get old!! You must think Team Henderson fell off the face of the earth. After 3 weeks of Tod being sick he went to the doctor. I know shocking. Mr. Henderson avoids the doctors at all cost. Now after 5 prescriptions he is still not feeling great. We are at a loss. I'm thinking lung/sinus/nose transplant. If anyone is willing to donate let us know. If you notice the otomax in the back row that is really Gina's meds. Everyone gets something!!

Bizarre Saturday Night

One of our best friend's sons plays on Archibishop Mitty's basketball team (rated #5 in the nation in HS boys varsity). He's awesome and the team is awesome and we've enjoyed being spectators at many of his games. On Saturday, the Mitty boy's team was playing Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (SHCP) which is in San Francisco. The girls varsity also played (right after the boys) and so we decided to stay for that game, as well, because the SHCP girls are the #1 rated womens varsity HS team in the nation.

So, Jules and I went to San Francisco, did some sightseeing, ate in Chinatown and headed for the basketball games. That was the normal part of Saturday.

The bizarre part came as we were in the stands of the girls game just after halftime. One of the Mitty parents came back to her seat just behind us - saying that one of the mom's from SCHP was all upset out in the lobby because she had just witnessed a shooting outside the gym. At first, our thoughts were that she must have been being dramatic. We were far from correct.

In fact, the father of one of the SCHP girls basketball players was killed right outside the gym. Unbelievable! The game continued as information was starting to trickle through the stands. The players remained uninformed, playing their hearts out until with 17 seconds remaining in the game a public announcement was made that 'an incident' had occurred outside the gym and when the game was over we needed to exit via alternate doors and not through the lobby.

It was a bizarre sight to exit and watch as the medical examiner's wagon was pulling up to the front of the gym. A truely sad, sad evening.

Please pray for the family of Tierra Rogers - as they lost a father and husband Saturday. While we watched an innocent high school basketball game - her father walked across the street outside the gym at half time while talking with a friend. Two men approached him - shot him 5 times - and ran off; forever changing Tierra's life.

At times like this I am grateful that we have a Heavenly Father who understands our world, is capable of comforting the needy, and is able to provide justice for the acts of evil men.

Boom!

So, if you haven't heard.. we've been having some major storms come through the Bay Area in the last several days. Friday was the big one. Many areas received several inches of rain and the winds were clocked at up to 100 mph.

The storm got personal Friday night as I was driving home from work. I was shocked out of my half-zoned-out-commuter-daze by an amazing BOOM just above my head. Something had struck my car. I immediately did an assessment and figured out the car was driving okay. I had control of the car. So, in the driving rain - I pulled over to the shoulder - got out and checked the car.. to find the huge HOLE in the sun-roof that you see in the picture.

I have no idea what hit the car. It certainly freaked me out! But, thanks to God it didn't go through the windshield! And, I was able to get home without further damage.

So, that was my Friday night. Hope yours was a bit less eventful!

Have a great week.

Monday Update: so - it appears that the piece of glass that was broken costs $942. That does not include installation! Amazing (in a bad way!). Ever wonder why insurance costs are so high??
